Blois, Chambord and Vendôme: Loire Valley Chauffeur Itinerary

Blois and Chambord bring together royal history, Loire Valley landscapes, distinctive hotels and fine dining. Set within the wider UNESCO-listed Loire Valley landscape, they make a rewarding base for a cultural stay. Vendôme offers a quieter extension, with historic streets and gardens less than an hour away by road in favorable conditions.

Blois: A Royal and Cultural City

On the banks of the Loire, Blois preserves a rich royal heritage. The Royal Château combines architectural periods represented by its medieval, Louis XII, Renaissance and classical wings. Allow time for the interiors as well as the surrounding old town.

  • Visit the Royal Château of Blois.
  • Explore the Maison de la Magie opposite the château, checking its seasonal program.
  • Walk through cobbled streets, historic churches and terraced gardens.
  • Plan a meal in the city or along the Loire, reserving ahead for sought-after restaurants.

Chambord: Renaissance Architecture and Nature

Commissioned by Francis I, Chambord is known for its monumental scale and double-helix staircase. Its 426 rooms form part of an extraordinary Renaissance residence within a walled national estate of 5,440 hectares. The estate should not be described as a national park.

Consider a guided château visit, a stay at Relais de Chambord nearby, and seasonal boating or cycling activities in authorized areas. Check activity availability, access restrictions and ticket conditions before planning your day.

Traveling from Paris to the Loire Valley

  • Paris to Blois by rail: conventional services from Austerlitz can take around 1½ hours on selected trains. Check the exact service and arrival station.
  • Paris to Vendôme by TGV: some journeys from Montparnasse take around 42 minutes to Vendôme–Villiers-sur-Loir TGV, outside the town center. Arrange the onward transfer.
  • Blois to Chambord: often around 20–30 minutes by road, depending on the starting point and traffic.
  • Driving from Paris: the A10 corridor is useful for the region. Allow roughly two hours or more for Blois or Vendôme and around 2¼ hours or more for Chambord, with extra time for traffic and stops.
  • Coach from Orly: check whether a suitable service to Blois operates on your date. Do not assume a direct shuttle or a fixed fare is available.

A private chauffeur can connect your Paris address, station or airport with the Loire Valley. For several visits, agree on a Dedicated Chauffeur Service, daily hours, mileage, stops and the return plan.

A longer route can include Vaux-le-Vicomte, Fontainebleau and Orléans before continuing to Chambord, Cheverny, Blois, Chaumont-sur-Loire, Amboise, Clos Lucé, Chenonceau and Tours. This is a multi-day itinerary rather than a realistic single-day checklist.

A Seven-Day Château Itinerary with a Private Chauffeur

The following program is a customizable suggestion. Confirm opening days, guided visits, hotel nights and restaurant reservations before finalizing the route. Transport, accommodation, meals, admission tickets and guides are separate items unless explicitly included in your quote.

Day 1: Paris → Vaux-le-Vicomte → Fontainebleau

Depart from your Paris hotel for Vaux-le-Vicomte, associated with Le Vau, Le Brun and Le Nôtre. Plan lunch nearby, then continue to Fontainebleau for its royal and imperial château. Stay overnight in a hotel or character property in the area.

Day 2: Fontainebleau → Orléans

Spend the morning at leisure or take a walk on an authorized forest route, checking current access restrictions. Continue to Orléans, explore Sainte-Croix Cathedral and the historic center, then dine and stay overnight in town.

Day 3: Orléans → Chambord → Cheverny

Visit Chambord, with a qualified guide if separately reserved. Choose a picnic where permitted or lunch at a nearby restaurant. Continue to Cheverny for its furnished interiors and gardens, then stay in the surrounding area.

Day 4: Cheverny → Blois → Chaumont-sur-Loire

Explore Blois’s château and old town in the morning. After lunch, visit the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, checking the International Garden Festival calendar and current exhibitions. Continue to accommodation in or near Amboise.

Day 5: Amboise and Clos Lucé

Visit the Royal Château of Amboise and Clos Lucé, associated with Leonardo da Vinci’s final years. A dinner in a troglodyte setting can be considered if available and reserved. Stay overnight in Amboise.

Day 6: Chenonceau

Explore the “Ladies’ Château,” including the gardens associated with Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de’ Medici. Plan lunch at a restaurant or a reserved wine-estate experience, then return to Amboise or continue to Tours.

Day 7: Tours → Paris or Rail Departure

Spend the morning in Tours’s historic center or market area, with time for regional food or a prearranged tasting. Return to Paris by chauffeur, or transfer to Tours or Saint-Pierre-des-Corps according to the train booked. First-class rail travel is an optional ticket choice, not automatically included.

What to Specify in the Quote

  • A suitable premium vehicle, such as a Mercedes E-Class or V-Class, or equivalent, according to passenger and luggage needs.
  • Daily chauffeur hours, mileage, waiting time, overnight arrangements and return transportation.
  • Hotels and breakfast only where expressly included.
  • Restaurant suggestions and any confirmed reservations.
  • A qualified guide for selected days, if requested and available.
  • Admission tickets, meals, tastings and other extras, clearly identified.

The itinerary balances major châteaux with smaller cultural stops, local food and free time. It can be shortened to three to five days or extended with Vendôme, subject to practical travel times and opening schedules.

Vendôme: A Quieter Extension

Vendôme offers medieval streets, town-hall gardens and the remains of its historic château. It can provide a calmer stop after several days of major Loire attractions. Allow time to explore on foot and check access to the sites you wish to visit.

Accommodation Around Vendôme

PropertyLocation mentioned in the itineraryWhat to verify
Hôtel MercatorRoute de Blois, VendômeCurrent category, room type, breakfast, parking and dining
Le Grand Saint-Marc2 Rue de la Perchaie, VendômeGuesthouse accommodation, grounds, room configuration and actual facilities

Le Grand Saint-Marc is presented as a character guesthouse rather than a guaranteed four-star hotel with a pool. Confirm facilities directly; a house’s setting and marketing description should not be confused with an official hotel classification. At Hôtel Mercator, check the current services and exact address before booking.

Dining in Vendôme

  • Le Moulin du Loir: in the Rue du Change area, associated with a traditional mill setting and French cooking. Check current menus and prices.
  • Le Malu: an option for contemporary cooking in Vendôme; verify the current address and reservations.
  • La Table de Fred / Hôtel Mercator: check whether the named dining service is operating and under what current name before planning a meal.
  • Comme un Grain: an option associated with galettes and crêpes near Place de la République; confirm opening hours.
Melun–Villaroche, a historic airfield in Seine-et-Marne

Private Aviation: Melun–Villaroche to the Blois Area

Travelers considering private aviation may ask an authorized operator about a possible flight between Melun–Villaroche (LFPM) and Blois–Le Breuil (LFOQ). This is an optional aviation arrangement, not a scheduled service or an automatic inclusion in a chauffeur itinerary.

  • Cost comparison: ask for an itemized quote covering the aircraft, positioning, airport fees, handling and ground transportation. A fixed percentage saving compared with Le Bourget cannot be guaranteed.
  • Timing: flight duration, formalities and departure flexibility depend on the aircraft, weather, operating conditions and operator. Do not plan around a guaranteed 30–40-minute flight without confirmation.
  • Ground access: coordinate the exact airfield entrance and pickup point. The drive from Blois–Le Breuil to your hotel or château depends on the destination and traffic.
  • Personalized service: catering and onboard options must be agreed with the aviation provider; the chauffeur service covers the ground arrangements specified in its booking.
  • Scenic flights or extensions: these require separate operational approval and confirmation. They should not be assumed available on demand.

A private flight can be considered for particular business or leisure needs, but suitability and total journey time should be compared with rail and road travel. First Class Partner can arrange agreed ground transfers around a separately confirmed flight.
