Starting a French private chauffeur business means preparing professional entry requirements, the business structure and daily operations. Entrepreneurial independence does not guarantee profitability. A sound project relies on realistic assumptions about demand, costs and available working time.
Check professional entry requirements
Consult Service Public Entreprendre’s official VTC guide before starting. It explains entry conditions, the examination and the professional card. Exam preparation is recommended, but should not be confused with passing the examination or receiving the card.
The official guide states that, from August 12, 2026, professional experience no longer provides an entry route for the new applications concerned. Check your situation with the responsible authority, particularly if an application was submitted before that date.
Distinguish the business from the driver
Establishing the business, registering the operator with REVTC and obtaining driver documentation are separate steps. Put them into a schedule and check the required evidence before offering services. A pending application is not the same as confirmed authorization.
The appropriate legal structure depends on your circumstances, costs and plans. Have the social, accounting and tax implications reviewed by a suitable professional instead of choosing a structure based on an income promise.
Build a realistic budget
Assess vehicle costs, insurance, maintenance, energy, administrative expenses and unbilled time. Include empty return journeys and lower-demand periods. Compare several booking scenarios and allow for unexpected costs.
Revenue is not take-home income. Neither a sector growth percentage nor an advertised monthly figure guarantees your personal result.
Prepare customer procedures
Define your services, operating areas and reservation terms. Provide clear information on vehicles, luggage, waiting time, cancellations and contact arrangements. A workable schedule and written confirmations help build repeat business.
Can I begin before completing the procedures?
Check that every condition required for your activity has been met before providing a service.
Should I immediately aim to operate a fleet?
Not necessarily. Project size should match verified demand and available resources.
This guide helps structure your preparation; formalities must be completed through the responsible official services.
