The 25 Bosses trail is in the Trois Pignons area, west of Fontainebleau Forest. Its rocky terrain attracts experienced walkers and trail runners. Preparation differs from a casual family walk: terrain, navigation, and sustained effort all need consideration.
A Demanding Route Through the Trois Pignons
The loop combines climbs, descents, and sandstone passages. Some obstacles may require using your hands. Distance and elevation gain vary with the chosen route and alternatives, so use a reliable map matching your planned itinerary.
Do not treat a runner’s completion time as a walking estimate. Allow for breaks, your group’s abilities, and a margin before dark. If the required level is uncertain, choose a shorter and more suitable route.
Check Access Before Departure
Maintenance, weather events, and conservation measures can affect access. Check information from France’s National Forest Office, the ONF, and obey barriers and signs onsite. An older trail description does not confirm that the route is open on the day of your visit.
The ONF describes its trail restoration work to address erosion, in French. Stay on permitted routes and avoid shortcuts that damage fragile ground.
Equipment and Weather
Bring suitable footwear, enough water for your planned effort, food, weather protection, and navigation that works offline. Do not rely on finding refreshments along the route.
Rain can make sandstone slippery, while heat and short daylight hours can also complicate the outing. Check forecasts before departure and adapt the plan to conditions and every participant’s abilities.
Arrange Transportation and Return Pickup
The Trois Pignons area is not next to Fontainebleau-Avon station or the palace. Identify the permitted parking area or trailhead and check road access. A chauffeur can arrange an agreed drop-off and return pickup.
Specify participant numbers, bags, and expected timing. The meeting point must be accessible to vehicles; the chauffeur does not accompany you on the trail. Plan how to contact the team if your walk takes longer than expected.
Explore More of the Fontainebleau Area
A village walk, palace visit, or trip to Barbizon can form a separate part of your stay. Keep plans realistic after a demanding hike and confirm opening hours for any visits.
We are available 24/7 by reservation. Request a transfer to your chosen trailhead.
